September, 2017 --- The Zambia Weights and Measures Agency has seized nine (09) illegal scales found being used for trade in Chazanga and Chipata Townships of Lusaka. This is when a team of inspectors conducted a random inspection in butcheries in those townships on Wednesday 20 th   September 2017. Of eleven (11) trading premises inspected, eight (08) butcheries were found to be using non-type-approved and unverified scales to sell meat products. “The illegal scales were seized, and the owners have been summoned to the Agency for cautioning and corrective action.” The Agency is cautioning butchery owners and other traders against using instruments that have not been type-approved and verified by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency. It is illegal to possess or use an instrument for trading purposes that is not type approved and verified for accuracy by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency. The Drug Enforcement Commission through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit in Lusaka has arrested an Accountant for money laundering activities involving K30, 000.00. Cosmas Langa Tembo, 42, of House No. B148 Mtendere Compound in Lusaka has been arrested for attempting to obtain credit by false pretences, forgery, uttering of false documents and personation contrary to the laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Cosmas Langa Tembo on dates unknown but between 1 st  November, 2016 and 27 th  January, 2017 whilst acting together with other persons unknown did attempt to obtain credit of K30, 000.00 from a known Micro Financial Lending Institution by uttering false documents purporting to be a Teacher at Mayota Primary School in Chibombo District when in fact not. headline news Some youths in CHAWAMA constituency have cried foul over   failure by government to give them youth empowerment funds despite processing all the papers. Speaking in an interview with united voice radio, CHRIS ZIMBA complained that they have been chasing for the empowerment funds since last year but to no avail. The rural electrification authority REA says the construction of the six grid extension in various provinces at a cost of 7.6 million has reached an advanced stage. Speaking at a media briefing today, REA director of cooperate affairs JUSTINE MUKOSHA explained that all the projects were expected to be completed in January next year. United Nations Resident Coordinator  Janet Rogan has urged nations to reflect on the legacy of the former UN Secretary General  DAGAMASHORT , who died in a plane crash on 18 th September, 1961 near Ndola while on a mission to help bring peace to Zaire, now Democratic Republic of Congo. During the commemoration in a speech read for her by International Labour Organization-ILO Resident Representative ALEXIO MUSINDO ,Ms Rogan   said the UN attaches great importance to honoring the memory of DAG HAMMARSKJOLD.
The 15 th  Edition of Zambia National Service Commandant’s Netball Tournament will be held on Saturday, 23 rd September 2017 at Zambia National Service Chamba Valley Officers Mess Grounds starting at 07:00 hours. According to Lydia Nanyangwe Midlands Netball Association General Secretary, a total of 60 teams from Regular, ZNS Units,Men, Community and Madalas teams are expected to participate in a one day tournament . Teams from Western and Southern Provinces are also expected to take part. Nanyangwe has urged teams that have not yet confirmed participation in this big and richest Netball tournament in the Country to do so and further requested them to observe punctuality. Among the prizes to be given out include, Best three teams in all categories, Best players from all categories, Best Disciplined team and Umpire of the tournament
