Bouro,The unsang rhumba Guru

Appreciating talent is our core objective as Classic Promos.Rhumba, is a genre of music most of us have listened to and danced to in our lives.

This week, on Celebrity corner, we are super excited to introduce to Geco Bouro Mpela,Rhumba guru.

His real names are Geco Bouro Mpela ,popularly know as Bouro.
He is not new in Music Industry, rhumba to be precise. He started his music career with Koffi Olominde, The king of Rhumba.

Bouro was born in Kinshasha, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to a musical family as his grandparents, parents and siblings were either with careers in the industry or talented and passionate about the trade.

He was educated locally (DRC) and graduated with a University degree.

Bouro  began his singing as a member of his church choir and when his brother Alain joined the band Wenge Musica, Bouro would rehearse with him at home.
While still at school, Bouro began to sing and perform with several bands.

His big break on becoming a professional musician came at the age of 16 when he joined Koffi Olomide’s Quartier Latin International.

An acquaintance took Mpela to Olomide’s house and when the legend of Rhumba saw him dance he was blown away by the young man’s talented dance moves. He was hired on the spot.
While with the band, he wrote and recorded several hits including: Likombe and Calvaire. He also toured with the band in Africa, Asia, Europe, and America and won the hearts of many fans with his talents.
Mpela created the famous Ndombolo dance which was popular with Olomide’s Loi album of 1997 where it first appeared and made waves around the world.

The talented Mpela will forever be remembered as the ‘King of Ndombolo’ and has never disappointed  his music lovers on the dance floor.

Mpela is one musician who can be described as a full package: dancer and choreographer, singer and composer, and also plays the guitar and the Conga (drums).

Between his time of joining the band and 2016, Bouro Mpela would join and leave Quartier Latin International three times.
In 2005, After one of his departures, with his brother Alain Mpela, he produced the album Mortel Combat but has other solo products such as: Vice de Procedure with singles like Ecole d’amour and Kwiti ya Lokoto.

A road accident in the USA put him out of action and after 8 years of convalescence, Mpela has managed to bounce back with an album he has been working on for quite some time on which he also boasts of collaborations with musicians from Spain.

He also sang in Spanish on one of the songs even though he doesn’t speak a word of the language!

In an interview, Olomide described Mpela as his idol and called him the best dancer to have ever been produced in the DRC.

It is undeniable that Mpela was one of Olomide’s favourite band members whose presence he valued immensely, which may explain why he could leave and still come back to open arms numerous times.
He, however, bade Koffi Olomide the final farewell to pursue personal goals and went on to produce his hit single Quingain ngain in 2016. He has since been working on a solo album, Bokoko, due to be released soon.

His latest single Ndombolo Dab hit the airwaves on 8 October 2018 and is available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OORDlmnCQO0

The songs will soon be available on www.classicspromos.com. for download, watch out!!

In the meantime, you can request for Ndombolo Dab and quingain ngain on Solwezi Fcc Radio 89.7 Fm
