Subjects of Chief Matebo of the Kaonde speaking people of Kalumbila district have accused two traditional leaders for causing confusion in the matter of who should be the chief between Collece Mulemena and Evans Nyeleti.
Speaking during a meeting called by the sitting Chief of the Matebo chiefdom, the seventh Evans Nyeleti today at the palace, the subjects alleged that the said two chiefs are contributing to the continued wrangles over the chieftainship of the Matebo royal establishment.
The subjects said the two chiefs are supporting Collece Mulemena who lost the case in the high Court through a judgment which was passed.
Nyambi Harrison, who spoke on behalf of the other subjects, said he wonders why the two chiefs have concentrated on Chief Matebo's Chiefdom when they have their own Chiefdoms.
He disclosed that the people choose Evans Nyeleti to be their Chief and when the matter was taken to court, It resolved that he qualifies to be on the throne.
" it is unfortunate that even after hearing the ruling by the court the two chiefs have continued to bring confusion in the Chiefdom" He said.
Mr. Nyambi has pleaded with the mentioned chiefs to leave the Matebo royal establishment alone, so that they will be able to govern themselves freely.
He said the people of Matebo Chiefdom will not change their mind in crowning another Chief as they have already chosen Evans Nyeleti.
Mr. Nyambi further called on government to consider setting up proper boundaries for the Chiefdom as part of the Chiefdom is believed to have been encroached on by those nearby.
And sitting Chief Matebo Evans Nyeleti said that he is not on the throne illegally but that it is his birth right.
"" You will not deny me my birthday right and I will continue reigning as Chief Matebo", if this sit was not given to me by God, then am going to be dethroned but if is from God, no one is going to dethrone me? He said.
Chief Matebo said he wants to see development in his Chiefdom just like other Chiefdoms which have almost attuned district status and wonders why that cannot be extended to his Chiefdom.
He has however, urged his subjects to desist engaging in fights but look up to God for guidance.
He said that he left the North Western province Chiefs Indaba on Tuesday, because of the love that he has for the church and the leaders who were in attendance.
"The choice I made to accept the decision made by my fellow chiefs was the wisest thing which you expect from a leader" ,"I have respect for chieftainship and I want to learn from other chiefs on the best way to rule my people" Chief Matebo said.
He further said that him associating with the government does not mean that government installed him on the throne but his subjects did.
Chief Matebo has advised chiefs perpetrating imaginary wrangles in his Chiefdom to desist from doing so for them to be respected by the people in his Chiefdom just as they are respected in their Chiefdoms.
"I don't want to see bloodshed in Matebo Chiefdom, let's not insult the chiefs, let's learn from them" he said.
