And the Provincial Minster has thanked the Germany government for donating assorted items to the eleven councils in the province in the bid to curb the spread of Covid 19.


Speaking when he received the donated items by GIZ representatives Hon Mubukwanu said  all along the province was preparing its self in the response to the deadly corona virus and the five cases reported yesterday by minister of health Dr Chitalu Chilufya has activated the response.

He says corona virus has finally announced its presence in the province and appealed to the local media to ensure they continue sensitizing the public on its dangers and how one can protect himself.

The Provincial Minister says its high time north westerners changed their mind sets that they cannot suffer from the deadly corona virus.

He has also said that the response and preparedness team is yet to establish the extent contacts of those who have been quarantined at the isolation center.


And the provincial minister has urged the local authorities never to think of working in isolation as the country fights the spread of the deadly Covid 19.
He says stakeholders should each play their roles, adding that he does not expect the local authorities to start running their own parallel programmes just because they are in receipt of the material to support their fight against Covid 19.


And speaking at the same event, GIZ Representative Tamara Banda said the the German government shares the aspiration and desires of the Zambian government in the fight against the Covid 19 which has hit the country.

Ms Banda said the increasing number of Covid 19 reported in the few days’ calls on all stakeholders to play their roles.

She said in joining the Zambian government in the fight against Covid 19, the German government through its implementing partners the GIZ decided to support the work of the local authorities across the province with assorted materials.

Ms Banda believes that the local authority is one of the local key players in the effort to curb the spread of the virus.
She also said that her organization is aware of the scarcity of the resources amongst the local authorities.

 Ms Banda says the items donated include boxes  hand sanitizers, disinfectants, liquid hand wash,face masks, gloves, sprayers and drums, given to Solwezi, Mwinilunga, Kalumbila, Kasempa,Mufumbwe,Kabompo,Manyinga,Mushindamo,Chavuma,Zambezi and Ikelengi councils respectively.
