Zambia Sugar Plc Employee Jailed The Choma Magistrate court has convicted a Zambia Sugar employee to four years imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices involving K10, 000. The Anti- Corruption Commission public relation officer Timothy Moono disclosed that the commission in 2014 arrested Willard Mwiinga a 40- year- old Maintenance Superintendent at Zambia Sugar Company PLC of House number 4 Mukuyu Staff Area for corrupt practices by Private Body, contrary to Section 20 (1) as read with section 41 of the AC Act No. 3 of 2012 of the Laws of Zambia. Details are that on dates unknown but between 1 st January and 26 th April 2014, in Mazabuka District of Southern Province of the Republic of Zambia, Willard Mwiinga being an employee of Zambia Sugar Company did corruptly solicit for K40 000 and actually received K10 000 cash gratification, from, a Director of Lazpine Engineering Company, as an inducement or reward for having facilitated the award of contract to ma

September, 2017 --- The Zambia Weights and Measures Agency has seized nine (09) illegal scales found being used for trade in Chazanga and Chipata Townships of Lusaka. This is when a team of inspectors conducted a random inspection in butcheries in those townships on Wednesday 20 th September 2017. Of eleven (11) trading premises inspected, eight (08) butcheries were found to be using non-type-approved and unverified scales to sell meat products. “The illegal scales were seized, and the owners have been summoned to the Agency for cautioning and corrective action.” The Agency is cautioning butchery owners and other traders against using instruments that have not been type-approved and verified by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency. It is illegal to possess or use an instrument for trading purposes that is not type approved and verified for accuracy by the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency. The Drug Enforcement Commission through its Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unit in Lusaka has arrested an Accountant for money laundering activities involving K30, 000.00. Cosmas Langa Tembo, 42, of House No. B148 Mtendere Compound in Lusaka has been arrested for attempting to obtain credit by false pretences, forgery, uttering of false documents and personation contrary to the laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Cosmas Langa Tembo on dates unknown but between 1 st November, 2016 and 27 th January, 2017 whilst acting together with other persons unknown did attempt to obtain credit of K30, 000.00 from a known Micro Financial Lending Institution by uttering false documents purporting to be a Teacher at Mayota Primary School in Chibombo District when in fact not. The 15 th Edition of Zambia National Service Commandant’s Netball Tournament will be held on Saturday, 23 rd September 2017 at Zambia National Service Chamba Valley Officers Mess Grounds starting at 07:00 hours. MUZ, CHAMBESHI AGREES TO BETTERS MINERS CONDITIONS. Anthony Tapa The Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) and Chambishi Metals have signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for 2017. MUZ General Secretary Joseph Chewe said Mineworkers Union of Zambia has reached consensus with Chambishi Metals to put all workers who have been on fixed term contracts on permanent jobs. Mr. Chewe said the move was in line with the legislation government passed to ban casualization on jobs that are of permanent nature. “We are taking advantage even in Chambishi metals to put all the workers into permanent employment and this was accepted after a lengthy discussion. Soccer fans across the country have denounced the senior chimpolopolo after losing their first game in group k AFCON qualifier against Mozambique over the weekend. The police have apprehended a 33 year old woman of Lusaka’s Garden Compound for allegedly murdering her 23 year old nephew also of Garden Compound. In a statement released to journalist by zambia police public relations officer has disclosed that the incident happened yesterday, 06th June, 2017 at about 10 30 hours. The deceased has been identified as Mike Ngwenyama aged 23 while the suspect has been identified as Eunice Ngwenyama. It was reported that the accused person who is an aunt to the victim had passed through the victim’s house on her way to look for pieces of work where she found her nephew with a girl friend. Centre for trade policy and development under the economic governance and tax program has embarked on a resource utilization and mineral revenue sharing mechanism project aimed at tracking and monitoring mineral revenue in the areas where mining activities are taking place. In an interview with CTPD information and communications officer Isaiah Mbewe said Zambia is blessed with a lot of minerals but there is no prudent management of the resources being collected from the minerals hence the need to train the community. Mr Mbewe said there is need for people to track and monitor how resources are being used by the local authorities that is why they have come up with a community mineral revenue tracking toolkit to help the community to easily track if the resources are being used for the intended purposes. Patriotic front in northwestern province says there is need for government to help youths to grow in the agriculture sector by providing them with enough land. Speaking after arrival from CUBA on Thursday northwestern province patriotic front vice youth chairperson Jackson Kungo said if only government drive the youths into agriculture only then they will become productive. He added that government should improve the tourism sector by putting up better infrastructure which will be able to attract investors there by creating employment for the people. The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a 36 year-old Ugandan national for being in possession of over $70, 000 United States Dollars counterfeit notes. Isa Mutebi, 36, a Ugandan businessman of House No. 12 Kamwala in Lusaka has been arrested for being in possession of $79, 500 United States Dollars counterfeit notes. The suspect was arrested at a named mall in the Central Business District of Lusaka. Also arrested in a similar incidence is Dyson Mtonga, 48, a bricklayer of Kamwala South in Lusaka for being in possession of $135, 000 United States Dollar counterfeit notes in $100 bills. Lusaka, Tuesday 28 th March, 2017- The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested an 18 year-old boy of Lusaka for trafficking in heroin. The 18 year-old boy of Mandevu Township in Lusaka has been arrested for trafficking in 25 sachets of heroin. Also arrested and jointly charged is Steven Ngoma, 25, Patrick Miti, 27, and John Sinkala, 35, all of Matero Township in Lusaka for trafficking in 13 sachets of cocaine. The trio was arrested at Lusaka’s Buseko Market. Meanwhile, the Commission has in other parts of the country arrested eight (08) small scale farmers for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis. Those arrested include Kollar Simbila, 40, of Hanenga village in Chikankata District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.2 tonnes and for trafficking in 37.8kg of loose cannabis.
