And Mr Mangimela says most of the structures were not built to withstand the effects of climate change, hence being destroyed.

Speaking when he visited Kikombe secondary school, Rodwell mwepu and Solwezi main market whose roofs were blown off on Monday around 18hrs, Mr Mangimela disclosed that the department of Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) through the office of the district commissioner has assessed the extent of the damage on the three structures.

Mr Mangimela said the bill of quantity has been made and sent to DMMU headquarters,
Lusaka for assistance.

He has however wondered how the recent built classroom block at Kikombe was blown off in a space of few years of existence.

The permanent secretary has called on all contractors and all those in the construction sector to consider constructing buildings that can withstand the effects of climate change, especially in north western province which receives normal to above normal rainfall.

He is however, optimistic that the disaster management and mitigation unity will respond adequately on the blown off structures especially before schools open.

And Kikombe secondary school head teacher, Pamela Mukinyi said it will be difficult for the school to enroll pupils as schools open if the structure is not worked on immediately as pupils may not report on time.

Ms Mukinyi says the blown off structure accommodates about 250 pupils hence requesting that the structure should be worked on immediately to help the community.
