Lusaka, Tuesday 28 th March, 2017- The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested an 18 year-old boy of Lusaka for trafficking in heroin. The 18 year-old boy of Mandevu Township in Lusaka has been arrested for trafficking in 25 sachets of heroin. Also arrested and jointly charged is Steven Ngoma, 25, Patrick Miti, 27, and John Sinkala, 35, all of Matero Township in Lusaka for trafficking in 13 sachets of cocaine. The trio was arrested at Lusaka’s Buseko Market. Meanwhile, the Commission has in other parts of the country arrested eight (08) small scale farmers for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis. Those arrested include Kollar Simbila, 40, of Hanenga village in Chikankata District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.2 tonnes and for trafficking in 37.8kg of loose cannabis. And the Commission has in the same village seized 1.9 tonnes of fresh cannabis plants belonging to Choongo Chikoko, 46, who is currently on the run. However,

BAN OF IMPORTATION OF VEGES, FRUITS NO DIFFERENCE FROM XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS-FARMERS. Farmers in central province have welcomed the proposal by government to ban the importation of vegetables and fruits with mixed feelings. Jonathan Muchindu a small holder farmer in mapaza chiefdom on behalf of the other farmers told farmers prime newspaper that Zambian farmers are not capable to supply fruits and vegetables to companies like Shoprite and food lovers. Mr. Muchindu stated that government was supposed to test the market before arriving on such a decision. Chief Mukobela of the ILA speaking people in Namwala district, southern province has revealed that the harvest for the 2016/2017 farming season will be massive despite the earlier reported cases of army worms in some parts of the district. Chief Mukobela told farmers prime newspaper that the farmers did their best and the results are seeing with good growth of the crops in the district. However, he said some farmers did not receive the farm inputs on time but that did not make them work hard to see to it that the produce for yields in the 2016/2017 farming season. ‘’some farmers failed to pay for the farm inputs on time, hence they were delayed to receive the inputs on time’’ chief mukobela said. Intensify your research seed companies’ urged-Siliya. Minister of agriculture Dora Siliya has implored seed-co and other seed companies in the country to intensify their research for various crops as to compliment government’s efforts in its diversification drive. The minister said this during the 7th national field day for seed-co which attracted over one thousand farmers drawn from different parts of the country, at seed-co main depot, in Lusaka. Ms. Siliya mentioned that, the government through the ministry of agriculture is commuted to ensuring that smallholder farmers have timely access to agricultural inputs such as seeds of different crops in an effort to promote crop diversification.

Lusaka, Saturday 11 th March, 2017- The Drug Enforcement Commission has in various parts of the country arrested six (06) people for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Those arrested include Steven Katiban’gombe, 54, a Security Guard of Chongwe for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 630kg and Luka Zimba, 37, a Stock Man also of Chongwe for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 525.2kg. In Central Province the Commission has arrested Morgan Nkandu, 38, a Small Scale Farmer of Mutambo village in Serenje District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 437kg and for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 21kg. Also arrested is Bertha Nakazwe, 34, of Mpundu Section in Mansasa area of Luano District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 231kg. Lusaka, Tuesday 7 th March, 2017- The Drug Enforcement Commission in Muchinga Province has arrested and jointly charged a 16 year-old Tanzanian national and a 22 year-old Zambian national for trafficking in 490 sachets of heroin. DEC public relations officer theresa Katongo has diclosed that a Tanzanian male juvenile of Chiyanga Village in Nakonde District has been arrested and jointly charged with Geoffrey Susunga, 22, a Barman of the same village for trafficking in 490 sachets of heroin. The suspects were arrested in Chiyanga Village during a joint operation with the Tanzanian Police. Meanwhile the Commission in Central Province, has arrested and jointly charged James Siame, 20, of Kapiri Mposhi District, Joyce Nakayika, 52, of Ntindi Compound in Nakonde District and Janet Nakamba, 38, of the same area for trafficking in 162 bundles of Miraa weighing 45.6kg.
