Lusaka, Tuesday 7th March, 2017-
The Drug Enforcement Commission in Muchinga Province has arrested and jointly charged a 16 year-old Tanzanian national and a 22 year-old Zambian national for trafficking in 490 sachets of heroin.

DEC public relations officer theresa Katongo has diclosed that a Tanzanian male juvenile of Chiyanga Village in Nakonde District has been arrested and jointly charged with Geoffrey Susunga, 22, a Barman of the same village for trafficking in 490 sachets of heroin. The suspects were arrested in Chiyanga Village during a joint operation with the Tanzanian Police.

Meanwhile the Commission in Central Province, has arrested and jointly charged James Siame, 20, of Kapiri Mposhi District, Joyce Nakayika, 52, of Ntindi Compound in Nakonde District and Janet Nakamba, 38, of the same area for trafficking in 162 bundles of Miraa weighing 45.6kg. The trio were intercepted at a named checkpoint in Central Province.

Also arrested in Central Province is Goodson Chausiku, 33, of Kachawa area in Luano District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 137.52kg.

In North-Western Province, the Commission has arrested Catherine Mukosayi, 42, a Small Scale Farmer of Mukongu area in Zambezi District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 204kg and Lawrence Mushinji, 32, a Small Scale Farmer of the same area for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 179kg.

And in Southern Province, the Commission has arrested Angelina Muntanga, 25, a Small Scale Farmer of Hamakwanta village in Kalomo District for trafficking in 74kg of fresh cannabis plants.

Chief  Matebo of the Kaonde speaking people of Kalumbila District says the imaginary wrangles in his Chiefdom are not being perpetuated by subjects of the royal establishment but by outside forces. Subjects of Chief Matebo of the Kaonde speaking people of Kalumbila district have accused two traditional leaders for causing confusion in the matter of who should be the chief between Collece Mulemena and Evans Nyeleti. Speaking during a meeting called by the sitting Chief  of  the  Matebo chiefdom, the seventh Evans Nyeleti today at the palace, the subjects alleged that the said  two chiefs  are contributing to the continued  wrangles over the chieftainship  of the Matebo royal establishment. The subjects said the two chiefs are supporting Collece Mulemena who lost the case in the high Court through a judgment which was passed. Nyambi Harrison, who spoke on behalf of the other subjects, said he wonders why the two chiefs have concentrated on Chief Matebo's Chiefdom when they have their own Chiefdoms.
