KALOTA URGES ARTISTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO PROTECT THEIR ARTISTIC WORKS AGAINST PIRACY

Kalumbila District Commissioner Robinson Kalota has challenged parents across the country to take keen interest in knowing the music their children listen to because music plays an important role in shaping one’s thoughts and behavior.

And Mr. Kalota has urged musicians to compose songs that would teach the public good morals and values acceptable in Zambia.

Speaking when he officiated at the launch of Wemulonga Album released by the King David Vessels of Praise  of the United Church of Zambia Trinity Congregation-Solwezi Mr. Kalota reaffirmed government’s commitment in supporting the music industry through various empowerments.

He has revealed that several artists are yet to benefit from the 30 million presidential youth empowerment targeting artists across the country.

Mr. Kalota also mentioned that artists should ensure that they protect their music from being pirated if they are to fully benefit from it.

"allow me to caution you also on protecting your music from being pirated. You must be beware of vultures that are waiting to swindle your efforts. "he said.

"you may wish to know that the industry that produce DVDS, CDs such music, film, drama and theatre have suffered a setback in their artistic business through piracy. Both the artists and government have lost colossal   sums of money because of piracy.’’ Mr. Kalota said.

He has further  encouraged King David Vessels of Praise and other musicians to ensure that they register their music with ZAMCORPS to avoid other people claiming ownership of their artistic work.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kalota has commended King David Vessels of Praise for successfully launching their first ever album entitled Wemulonga, which has eight (8) tracks in it.

"it is difficult to put up such events. Congratulations to the group and the church leadership for the wonderful organization,"  the District Commissioner said.

  "I also pledge to help by making a contribution of six thousand (K6, 000.00) towards your efforts." He added.

And speaking earlier, King David Praise Team patron Lewis Mavuka thanked Kalumbila District Commissioner Robinson Kalota for accepting the invitation to grace the launch of the Wemulonga album.

 And Mr. Mavuka disclosed that the praise team has 65 membership whose desire is to continue spreading the word of God through praise and worship.

Others, who were in attendance were Solwezi District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga, North-Western Province Patriotic Front Youth Chairperson Aminoni Hara, North-Western Province Patriotic Front Vice Secretary Denis Kanyakula,  Mrs. Tukiya Moyo, Trinity UCZ Minister incharge  Reverand Chitundu among others.

King David Praise Team was formed in 1995 with only 12 members, five males and 7 females. It has grown to 65 membership, 25 males, and 35 females. The music directors are Chibuye Mwape and Mrs. Pumulo Njamba and the convener Chanozya Mwandila. Umulonga is there first ever album to be released on the market.
