Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people of kalumbila district has called on the Expo North West Zambia 2019 organizers to take advantage of the few remaining days to sensitize the local people on the importance of the business exposition slated for August 2019.
Speaking in an interview with Solwezi FCC radio news Chief Mumena on Thursday last week said that the delegates will only have access to the hidden treasures when they come through the cultural gate keepers.
He says the reason why the expo has been brought is to benefit the local people of the land, adding that the province needs investments; however, the local people should have a share.
His royal highness Chief Mumena further said that up to now the tradional leaders have not had a formal engagement with the expo organizers and wonders what role they will play considering the few days remaining to the expo.
He said instead of organizing the expo at professional level only, there also need of the organizers to twinkle it down by engaging the local people.
The traditional said there was need to have sensitization meetings at village level to explain the role of the local people on how they will embrace the investors.
He said that he has observed that the organizing committee on concentrating on the foreign investors but leaving out the local people.
His royal highness chief Mumena has implored the expo North West Zambia 2019 committee to take advantage of the remaining days to engage all the stakeholders more especially the local people on the significance of the event.
He has further added that he appreciates the move taken by the provincial administration to host the expo northwest Zambia but feels it can only be successful when all stakeholders played their roles.
Meanwhile, Expo northwest Zambia 2019, coordinator Christopher Bwalya said district consultations were done and these comprised of the representations from the traditional leaders.
Mr Bwalya has told Solwezi radio news in a separate interview that the provincial minister Hon Mubukwanu has repeatedly indicated that the organizers promote more of local participation.
He says this is the reason why they are working hand in hand with the North West chamber of commerce trade and industry.
Mr Bwalya says there is need of the local people to support the process, adding that the province cannot afford to go backward.
He has further encouraged the media to report positively about the expo which he says will help in disseminating the information to all parts of the province
