Northwestern province national Democratic Party chairperson Mark Kalemba says he is not surprised that the ruling patriotic front has de-registered the party through the registrar of societies.
Mr Kalemba said they were pre-warned that government was scheming ways to have the NDC Party deregistered after attempts to use the court through its former secretary general Mwenya Musenge.
‘’now that the information has come that the government decided to go that way, we will wait and follow the direction from Lusaka , where our party president (Chishimba Kambwili ) has indicated that he will challenge the deregistration in the court of law’’ mr kalemba said.
He said that the registrar of society did not follow the procedure according to the articles which they referred in the registration and deregistration process.
Mr Kalemba said where a political party is seen to have lapses and lacunar’s that entails deregistration, it is supposed to be given twenty one (21) days to make corrections before deregistration.
‘’ we were not granted the 21 days for us to make correction by the registrar of society, instead, the deregistration has just been instant’’ he said.’’ Implying that it is not an administration deregistration, it is a political deregistration’’ Mr Kalemba added.
Mr Kalemba said the deregistration of the party is meant to frustrate its ability to provide checks and balances as an opposition political as well as to exercise their political right to belong to a political party of their choice.
However, Mr Kalemba said that he is not of the idea of challenging the matter in the court of law, considering the fact the party has all the necessary documents to support its existence.
‘’ we have the constitution which is intact, we have got everything to allow us register as political party, the only thing that can delay us is when we use the same name (NDC) and this may the reason why our leaders in Lusaka wants to challenge it through the court of law’’ mr kalemba said.
Mr Kalemba further said the party in the province is not shaken and the only thing which the members have been suggesting is to register the party under a different name and leave NDC for Mr Mwenye Musenge.
He has urged the members in the province to remain steadfast and remain intact and not be shaken for the wrangles are politically motivated.
‘’ we were warned last week that they may be deregistration coming in and we meant in the meeting to discuss the issue, so there is no need of NDC members in the province to be scared’’ mr kalemba said.
And Democratic Party spokesperson Judith Kabemba says the decision that has been taken by the PF government to shut the opposition in the country is an enermy to democracy.
‘’one wonders why the PF government is so scared of leaving state house in 2021 to an extent of resorting to deregistering opposition political parties in country’’ Ms kabemba said .
Ms Kabemba said that the plans by the PF government are aimed at getting rid of all competition before 2021 general elections.
She said her party sympathizes with the National Democratic Party, adding that they have been in the same situation hence knowing the pain and distress NDC members are going through at the moment.
Ms Kabemba also stated that PF should realise that Hon Chishimba Kambwili is a Zambian who should be allowed to exercise his democratic rights of belonging to any political party without fear or intimidation.
