Solwezi Municipal Council assures residents of Solwezi of their commitment towards waste management

Solwezi municipal council has assured residents of Solwezi of its commitment in waste management.
Council public relations officer MOSES NGOSA says to effectively manage waste in the district, which has experienced an increase in population and economic activities in recent years, the Local Authority zoned the district in four (4) segments and awarded some contracts to private Waste Management Companies to promote Public Private Partnership as well as improve on the waste collection efficiency.
MR NGOSA says Mushitala Zone was awarded to Transco, Mitec Zone to Waste Maid and Urban South Zone to Lembi, while the Urban North Zone is being managed by Solwezi Municipal Council following the expiry of a 10 year contract with Wana.
He says, the Local Authority had received some complaints from the general public concerning the newly engaged companies which prompted His Worship the Mayor (HWM) to call for a meeting with the three (03) companies on Friday 5th July, 2019.
MR NGOSA says arising from the same meeting, Solwezi Municipal Council is now assuring the general public that all their concerns were addressed during the meeting and the companies promised to improve on their waste management to meet people’s expectations.
He has disclosed that the Mayor is optimistic that the three (03) companies will live by their words so that the essence of zoning the district is not defeated.
