The findings have shown that the service level guarantee that relate to water supply hours by North Western Water supply and sanitation Company Limited is due to the power outages being experienced across the country-NWASCO

National Water Supply and Sanitation Council (NWASCO) says the findings have shown that the service level guarantee that relate to water supply hours by North Western Water supply and sanitation is due to the power outages being experienced across the country.
Speaking during a special program on Solwezi FCC radio on Friday NWASCO Technical Inspector-Water Curtis Muleya said the load shedding schedules by Zambia Electricity Supply Company have also affected the ability of the utility company to supply water to the people in the province whenever there is a power outage.
Mr Muleya said the utility company needs power for them to pump the water from the river or the borehole, to the treatment plant and also supplying to consumers after it is treated.
He said without power it has become a challenge for them to supply water to the people, however, Mr Muleya says North western water supply and sanitation has been engaging the Zambia Electricity Supply Company (ZESCO) to see how the challenge can be addressed.
Mr Muleya further said that the findings have shown that the impact of load shedding has affected Solwezi district to a larger extent as opposed to other districts.
He said other districts have storage facilities that are enough and able to store water in the duration of the power challenge.
Mr Muleya   also said that NWASCO has noted that North Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited has made strides in ensuring that the quality of water supplied to the consumers is meeting the standards and all the processed involved in the purification of water have improved.
