Stop Engaging Traditional Birth Attendants Or Else You Will Face Punishment" a Traditional Leader Has Cautioned His Subjects

A traditional leader in Solwezi district has urged expecting mothers to make use of the available health facilities when giving birth to newborns.

Speaking during the  handover ceremony of a maternity Annex at Mulenge health post which has been constructed by Solwezi Municipal Council through Constituency Development Fund Sub Chief Mulenga said there is no reason why people should always stick to home deliveries  which are conducted by traditional birth attendants.

He said ministry of health has a clear policy which states that all deliveries should be conducted at health facilities which are  available in communities or nearby.

Sub Chief Mulenga warned that whoever will be found will be punished to deter others from doing so.

He said government through ministry of health means well for the people and this is the reason why it has been discouraging the habit of engaging  traditional birth attendants when it's time for a woman to give birth.

The traditional leader further thanked government for putting up a maternity Annex at Mulenga health Post in his area.

Sub Chief Mulenga also  pleaded with government to consider upgrading the health Post into clinic.

And speaking at the same event Solwezi District Health Director Dr Kizito Sampa encouraged the community to take control over their own health by utilising the maternity Annex.

Dr Sampa emphasised that the home deliveries have been  contributing  to Maternal deaths, adding  that this is why government embarked on the project aimed at empowering the people of Mulenga with such a facility.
He said having such a facility in the area will help reducing maternal deaths.
