from yesterday to priorities power supply to Hospitals and health centers.
Speaking during the official opening of the fourth session
of the twelfth national assembly yesterday president Lungu said that he aware
that some health facilities are going without power for long periods of time.
He said he wonders how the health workers are
looking after the patients without Water and electricity, which are both, extremely
important and a human necessity within the management of patients.
President Lungu said
there is need of the ministry of energy, from midnight yesterday to priorities
power supply to hospitals and health centers.
He further directed the
ministry of energy to also priorities energy supply in the water supply operations,
adding that it is a serious matter that should not be taken lightly.
President Lungu said the
inability to have adequate water, generate enough power, grow enough food have all
been caused by the effects of climate change.
He said people should understand
and stop pointing fingers at each other for failure to grow the country’s economy
at the desired pace.
President Lungu has appealed
to Zambian citizens to as well journey along in the sustainable development of
the country, in the quest to mitigate the effects of climate change.
He said it does not matter
whether one is in government, in opposition, in the private sector or indeed in
civil society, there all of us are affected by climate change.
And Northwestern
Province Forum for Democracy and Development Chairperson Venus Kalala has
commended president Edgar Lungu for directing Ministry of Energy to prioritize the supplying of electricity to health
institutions.
Mr. Kalala said that the
president’s speech during the opening of the fourth session of the twelfth
national assembly yesterday cheered the people of Northwestern Province adding
that health institutions are key facilities ton human development.
He said that it
is sad to note that even health institutions are not left out on the load management by ZESCO on eight hours
the situation he described as unfortunate.
Mr. Kalala has since
urged the Zambia electricity supply company to oblige to the head of states
directive by supplying electricity to health institutions throughout.
