West College of Education Executive Director Alick Wina has commended government of the republic of Zambia under the leadership of his excellence Dr Edgar Lungu for providing a
conducive environment for private sector to train teachers.
Speaking during the third graduation ceremony of 297
student teachers held at Solwezi Lodge yesterday Mr Wina said that without the
government providing the conducive environment, the dream of training teachers
will be farfetched.
Mr Wina also said that he is confident that government will not take long in taking on the just graduated teachers to start
influencing pupils in schools through the teaching various subjects.
He further urged the graduates go and make a
positive influence in society by not only being relevant teachers but good
teachers as well.
Mr Wina said the knowledge students have acquired during
their studies at the college will enable them to make positive influence in the communities
where their services will be needed.
And speaking at the same event university of Lusaka
vice chancellor professor Pinalo Chifwanakene through a speech read on his
behalf by the Excutive Dean for the School OF Education, Social Sciences and
Technology of the University OF Lusaka Daniel Bowasi said the university
considered a number of factors for them to make South West College a partner.
He said the university ensured that the college had
competent lecturers who had what it takes to produce a quality teacher.
Mr Bowasi said that students are leaving the college
as qualified persons who will influence society positively.
He also encouraged the graduates not be comfortable
with a diploma’s but consider pursing their education at another level.
Mr Bowasi further challenged elderly people to
consider taking advantage of the various courses the University of Lusaka is
offering which will make one compete favorably in society.
